Begin with the goods.
A product name or supplier code is not enough to settle classification. Review composition, function, technical specification, presentation and intended use as relevant to the tariff. For oils and chemicals, a trade grade may need additional analysis before a reliable position can be taken.
- Supplier specification or technical literature
- Composition, grade, model or formulation information
- Invoice description and commercial use
- Existing classification rationale, if any
- Origin and any preference being considered
Separate classification, value and origin.
The tariff heading, assessable value and origin or preferential claim are related but different decisions. A duty estimate should only follow a current review of the actual goods and transaction. We do not publish hard-coded rates because tariff and notification treatment can change.
Use the official calculator carefully.
ICEGATE provides a Customs Duty Calculator for the trade. It is a reference tool, not a substitute for product identification, a correct entry or Customs assessment. Motumal can review the information and questions that should precede its use.
Keep a written basis.
Record which product facts, tariff text, origin evidence and current notifications support the proposed entry. If Customs raises a query, a traceable basis is more useful than a code copied from an unrelated shipment.
Questions before arrival
Will Motumal guarantee an HS code or duty amount from a website enquiry?
No. A position requires the actual product and current source material; Customs decides its assessment.
Can a supplier HS code be used unchanged?
It is useful evidence to review, but Indian tariff classification must be considered against the actual goods and applicable rules.
