Four layers of information
Keep the commercial transaction, physical movement, product identity and regulatory position together. An invoice may establish price but not chemical composition; a bill of lading may show the route but not the intended use of a machine. The customs review needs the relevant facts from each layer.
- Transaction: invoice, seller, buyer, currency, terms and value support
- Movement: bill of lading or airway bill, cargo mode, port and arrival
- Goods: specifications, composition, model, grade and quantity records
- Compliance: origin evidence, licences or agency approvals when relevant
Check consistency before filing
Compare names, dates, descriptions, weights, quantities and units across the documents. Ask the source party to explain or correct a mismatch. Record whether a difference is a genuine commercial amendment, a formatting difference or an error. That is more useful than silently choosing whichever figure appears easiest to file.
Add the operating plan
For containers, include the terminal or CFS route and delivery arrangement. For liquid bulk, add vessel and discharge details, product specifications, expected quantities and receiving storage. Physical readiness does not replace customs permission; customs preparation does not reserve a berth or tank.
Confirm the current requirements
Product-specific controls and documentary requirements can change. Ask a qualified reviewer to confirm the applicable tariff, import policy and any participating government agency interface for the actual goods. Do not rely on a generic checklist as the final legal list.
Questions importers ask
What if we do not know the HS code yet?
Provide the complete product facts and any supplier classification rationale. A code should be reviewed against the actual goods and current tariff.
Do we need to email confidential documents through this site?
No. The public enquiry form is for initial shipment facts. Agree a suitable transfer channel directly with Motumal for confidential records.
